About GearBeta
GearBeta is a community-powered knowledge platform for climbing gear. We help climbers compare gear side-by-side, plan a trad rack without coverage gaps, and learn from people who actually own and use the equipment.
Insights, not reviews
Instead of long-form star-rated reviews, GearBeta is built around insights: short, atomic, verifiable claims about a specific piece of gear. “The #0.4 runs about a half size small compared to the equivalent Camalot” is an insight. “Great cam, five stars” is not.
Because each insight makes one concrete claim, the community can evaluate it directly. Insights cover sizing, durability, technique, conditions, comparisons, warnings, and modifications.
Community votes and verified owners
Anyone can upvote or dispute an insight. Climbers who have the product in their gear closet are marked as verified owners, and their confirmations carry extra weight. Every insight gets a confidence score calculated from these votes, so the most reliable beta rises to the top — and shaky claims are flagged as disputed rather than silently buried.
Rack coverage tools
The Rack Builder visualizes the crack-width coverage of your cams and nuts, highlights gaps in your rack, and suggests specific pieces that would fill them. No more guessing whether your rack covers thin hands.
Who it’s for
New trad climbers assembling a first rack, experienced climbers filling out doubles, and gear nerds who want real numbers instead of marketing copy. If you have opinions about cam lobe angles, you are among friends here.
How GearBeta is supported
GearBeta is free to use. When you buy gear through retailer links on the site, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. Commissions never influence which gear is shown or how insights rank. Read the full affiliate disclosure.
