Terms of Use

Effective date: July 5, 2026

By using GearBeta you agree to these terms. They’re short and written in plain language — please actually read them, especially the safety section.

Not safety advice. Climbing is dangerous.

Everything on GearBeta — gear specifications, coverage charts, comparisons, and community insights — is informational only. It is not instruction, certification, or safety advice.

  • Specs on this site are community-maintained and may be incomplete, outdated, or wrong. Always verify gear specifications with the manufacturer before relying on them.
  • Always inspect your own equipment before every use and retire it according to the manufacturer’s guidelines.
  • Community insights reflect individual experiences, not tested, verified fact — even highly-voted ones.
  • Climbing, mountaineering, and related activities carry a risk of serious injury or death. You are solely responsible for your own safety, training, and gear decisions.

Your content

You own the insights and other content you post. By posting, you grant GearBeta a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to display, reproduce, and distribute that content on the platform (including in comparisons, search results, and confidence-score aggregations). You can request removal of your content at any time via GitHub issues.

Only post content you have the right to share, and don’t post content copied from other sites or publications.

Acceptable use

  • No spam, advertising disguised as insights, or self-promotion of commercial products you sell.
  • No manipulation of the voting system: no vote rings, sockpuppet accounts, buying or trading votes, or falsely claiming to own gear to obtain verified-owner status.
  • No harassment, impersonation, or posting others’ personal information.
  • No scraping at volumes that degrade the service, and no attempts to bypass security or access other users’ accounts.

We may flag, hide, or remove content and suspend accounts that violate these rules.

Affiliate links

Retailer links on GearBeta may be affiliate links. Purchases happen entirely on the retailer’s site under their terms — we are not a party to those transactions. See the affiliate disclosure for details.

No warranty

GearBeta is provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including accuracy, fitness for a particular purpose, or uninterrupted availability. To the maximum extent permitted by law, GearBeta and its contributors are not liable for any damages arising from your use of the site or reliance on its content — including gear purchase decisions and, per the section above, anything that happens on the rock.

Changes

We may update these terms; the effective date above will change when we do. Continued use of the site after changes means you accept the updated terms.
